A fascination with the organic ephemeral works of UK artist Andy Goldsworthy led to the banks of a small river in Western Maine and the plucking of leaves from a shrub along the bank that was transitioning to its fall colors. A rip through the middle and an ordering by color on a smooth granite river rock created the design which, captured by camera, became the basis for this piece.
